“Our ministry in Zenica involves church planting, farming and a children’s Day Care Centre. We started a new church plant in 2008, with about 30 attendees, mostly children and youth. We run house groups and a prayer meeting each week. We purchased a piece of land 4 miles from Zenica to build a youth transit center, focused on orphans and we have a farm which provides job opportunities and resources for the ministry and the people of the church. We also run a Daycare Centre for kids, taking care of them, helping them with their schooling, providing them with a hot meal and entertainment in the form of games.”

Walter Gonçalves, Founder.

Pray

Pray

Prayer for all of the organisers, Walter, Donald, Erika, Oscar and Dania Zelayas (from Honduras), who are new to the language. Also for the Sinyis family, who are from the Ukraine. They are employers from

the organization. Prayers for the country’s health service, it is corrupt and there is currently no

NHS available. There are also lots of difficulties concerning the government to obtain and renew visas, the demands and question seem to increase each time the process in undergone.

Day Care Centre

20 to 30 children attend the Day Care Centre each day, the ages range from 5 to 15 years old. All of the children come from dysfunctional families in the town of Zenica and the surrounding area. Each day they are provided with breakfast, lunch and teaching. The most important requirement for the children to be able to attend the day centre is to be registered in the school.

After breakfast and lunch they each have to pay attention to their own personal hygiene and begin their homework or school duties. We organise some recreation activities before and after school and after their homework is completed. We provide school support and supplies and often we visit the schools and families, alike, to see if there are better ways to support both the needs of the family and child. The families are also provided with some groceries and products from the Grace Valley Farm.

At the centre, the children have the facility to and take showers, acquire clean clothes, have hair cuts and have help with their homework. In both summer and winter we organise activities for them, for example, youth camps. There is 1 Social Worker present to cater for all of the children’s needs, who is Catholic. There

are 5 Bosnian workers, who work as carers and teachers, some of these workers are Muslim. There are two sessions each day, morning from 9 am - 12 midday and afternoon from 1 pm - 4 pm. Some of the children’s mothers and some local women help out at the centre, but more trained assistance is needed.

We have sewing machines available to use, but currently there is no one appointed to take overall responsibility for this facility.

Grace Valley (Farm)

There are 12 boys resident at the Grace Valley Farm. They live and work with the founder, Walter Gonçalves. At the Farm they are provided with food, shelter and clothing. They are taught farming skills, such as handling livestock, chickens, pigs, goats and cows and planting vegetables. Some of the livestock and vegetables are sold to support the farm.

Church Word of Life (local church)

Walter and Donald Solano run the Church. There is no local Pastor. Donald runs a discipleship group for the men and Erika Solano runs a discipleship group for the women. They hope that a Pastor will be appointed from one of the discipleship groups, eventually. They need 300 signature for a petition, to enable the church to function as a legal body.
